Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is not one thing. It is not single disease. Rather, PCOS is a set of symptoms, with the key symptom being impaired ovulation which leads to androgen excess or a high level of male hormones. Androgen excess leads to the common PCOS symptoms of weight gain, irregular periods, hair loss, hirsutism, and acne.

To treat PCOS you should know why particularly you are not ovulating?

In that case it may be due to different reason from someone else’s reason. Because of this there are so many different treatments are available and if you treat all PCOS cases with same medicine then chances are some will benefitted from the same treatment and not all.

PCOS means not One solution to all type of PCOS and its associated symptoms. Everyone needs special attention to resolve the symptoms.

In most cases, PCOS is not a permanent condition. With the right diagnosis and the right treatment, PCOS can become a thing of the past.

4 Different Types of PCOS

1. Insulin-resistant PCOS

2. Post-pill PCOS

3. Inflammatory PCOS

4. Adrenal PCOS

Insulin-resistant PCOS

This is most common type of PCOS. High insulin and leptin levels obstruct ovulation and encourage the ovaries to make testosterone. Insulin resistance is caused by sugar, junk food, too much fast food, smoking and environmental toxins. If you told you that you are Pre-diabetic or borderline diabetic. You probably have elevated insulin, and you may also have elevated LH (luteinizing hormone). You are probably overweight, although you may be a normal weight. Normal-weight insulin resistance can occur in the years following dieting or an eating disorder.

Best Possible Treatment:

Firstly stop eating sugar because high-dose fructose is a major contributor to insulin resistance. Try intermittent fasting option to improve insulin sensitivity. The best supplements for insulin resistance we suggest to have in this case are Myoinositol (2000 mg/day), D-Chiro-Myoinositol (50mg/day), Zinc (20mg elemental/day), L-tyrosine, selenium, chromium, Folate, Vitamin D and Magnesium. The contraceptive pills or hormonal pills are not the solution for this type of PCOS. What we think is contraceptive pills or hormonal treatment may worsen the PCOS. To overcome the insulin resistance is slower process and gradually within span of 6 to 9 month you will see tremendous improvement in your symptoms and state of PCOS. You see loss of weight, periods become regular, no more hair loss etc.

Post-pill PCOS

Contraceptives or Birth Control pill suppresses ovulation. Most of the time it is temporary and ovulation usually resume soon after pills stopped. Inversely, for some women it is jeopardy and they stop ovulation for months or years and slowly androgen gear up to increases where most of the time diagnosis fails and because it is not seems like to be PCOS in your USG report. But in fact this is second most type of PCOS generally due to any PCOS treatment at early age start with birth control or contraceptive.

Inflammatory PCOS

Inflammation or chronic immune activation results from pollution, micro plastic, stress, environmental toxins, intestinal permeability and inflammatory foods like gluten or A1 casein. Inflammation is a problem for PCOS because it hampers ovulation, interrupts hormone receptors, and excites adrenal androgens such as DHEA and androstenedione. You see other symptoms like immune dysfunction such as recurring infections, headaches, joint pain or skin conditions, itching, unexplained urticaria. Your blood test shows inflammatory biomarkers such as vitamin D deficiency, abnormal blood count, elevated C - reactive protein (CRP), thyroid antibodies, or gluten antibodies. You may have elevated DHEA or androstenedione and a positive urine test for intestinal permeability. You may also see the affected levels of glucose and insulin level hence Myoinositol helps to recover from it along with that. Supplementation with Zinc, Magnesium and Alpha Lipoic acid help to improve intestinal health. Improvement is slow and gradual over 6-9 months.

Adrenal PCOS

The final type of PCOS is not driven by insulin-resistance, hormonal contraceptive use or inflammation, but rather the body’s response to stress. Women with adrenal PCOS are either experiencing high levels of stress or their bodies are reacting abnormally to stress. In either case, they will have high levels of DHEAS an androgen produced in the adrenal glands and normal levels of other androgens produced in the ovaries such as testosterone and androstenedione. If you have ruled out insulin-resistance, and testing shows only your DHEAS is elevated and not your other androgens, then you are most likely dealing with adrenal PCOS. Priorities sleep and aim for a minimum of 8 hours per night, to help your body heal and reset stress hormone production. Supplement with magnesium, to nourish your nervous system and support mind and body relaxation. Meditation is the ultimate practice and tool for quieting your mind, reducing stress levels, and increasing self-awareness all of which have powerful benefits for both mental and physical health.
